«Mind over milkshake»; hva du tror du spiser påvirker sulthormonet ghrelin: En meget interessant studie fra mai 2011 fant at ghrelin-responsen til en gitt milkshake var større når subjektene trodde det var en høy-kalori shake, enn når de trodde det var en ‘sunn/lav-kalori’ shake

«Conclusions: The effect of food consumption on ghrelin may be psychologically mediated, and mindset meaningfully affects physiological responses to food.»

Det er dog viktig å påpeke at på tross av økningen i ghrelin nivåene var det ingen forskjeller i subjektive vurderinger av sultfølelse mellom gruppene. Så mens dette er en interessant studie, trenger vi mer forskning som går over lenger tid enn 1 måltid, før vi kan si noe mer konklusivt. Lyle; «What we do know is this: psychological mindset impacted on the response of a singular hormone that is important in terms of hunger drive and satiety.  But despite a measured physiological change in that hormone that differed between groups, there was no difference in real world hunger based on psychological mindset.  The hormonal response simply didn’t amount to anything in the real world.»

Søvnunderskudd senker testosteron-nivåene i unge, friske menn: En studie fra juni 2011 fant at en uke med stort søvnunderskudd (<-5 timer) reduserte testosteron-nivået hos unge, friske menn med 10-15 %.

USDA 'MyPlate'

USDA’s “Dinner Plate” vs. Farm Subsidies: It’s Still No Contest: En flott liten artikkel om USDA’s nye ‘Dinner plate': «Unless the government plans on matching crop subsidies to the recommendations laid out on My Plate (i.e.: subsidize fruits and vegetables, rather than wheat corn and soy to make nutritionally inferior byproducts), I don’t see how My Plate is supposed to help anyone develop better eating habits. I don’t believe Americans are lacking knowledge or awareness that fruits and vegetables are healthy; the problem is that fruits and vegetables compete with artificially priced junk food in the marketplace.»
